The National Three Peaks is a hiking challenge that involves climbing the three highest peaks of England, Scotland and Wales, often within 24 hours. The total walking distance is 23 miles, making this the ultimate endurance challenge for our dedicated supporters. We caught up with Jannine who will be tackling the National Three Peaks this summer.
Why did you choose to do the National Three Peaks in support of Martin House?
I choose to do the National Three Peaks in support of Martin House (MH) because it’s a charity close to my heart, as I used to look after a young lady who sadly passed away and MH supported her and her whole family through the final days of her life. The care they provide is crucial to families who find themselves in this unthinkable situation. Also, my husband works for GMI construction and MH is one of their chosen charities.
Where is your favourite place to train?
My favourite place to train has literally been anywhere out and about where I can get to. This being said the place I have used the most is a hill on a local country park near me where I spend a few hours just going up and down for 10 miles it’s an easy way to get the hill practice in without travelling too far if you’re a little short on time.
What’s your favourite training music/podcast?
I don’t really have a favourite training podcast I just put my playlist on shuffle and let it roll. I have about 3,000 songs with anything from the 60’s through to present day hits, I love the random mix of songs (although from time to time I have to skip a song or two).
What top training tips do you have for someone thinking of doing this next year?
Be sure to put the training in get plenty of miles through your legs and plenty of hill work along with gym strength training too.
What are your favourite snacks you’ll be taking with you?
Jelly babies and flapjacks.
Have you ever done anything like this before?
I’ve done the Yorkshire Three peaks but not for charity just for fun, but I’ve done several half marathons for various charities over the years.
