January will soon be here, and it’s time to lace up your walking boots and grab your furry friend for an adventure while fundraising along the way!

This winter, we’re calling on all dog lovers to take part in The BIG Dog Walk Challenge. A 31-day mission to walk 100km with your dog, all in support of a cause that will make tails wag and hearts swell. Together, step by step and paw by paw, you’ll be helping us build a hospice that our children truly deserve.

Why Join The BIG Dog Walk Challenge?

Whether it’s a frosty morning stroll, a brisk lunchtime walk, or an extended weekend hike, this challenge is the perfect way to kick off your new year with purpose.

Here’s why you and your pup should take part:

  1. Get fit together
Start the year off on the right paw by setting a fitness goal you and your dog can achieve together. Walking 100km over 31 days is a manageable goal that will keep you active, motivated, and healthy all month long.
  2. Support THE BUILD
Every step you take contributes to raising vital funds for The Build, our capital appeal to create a hospice that offers comfort, care, and support to children and their families.
  3. Strengthen your bond
Walking with your dog is a great way to connect and unwind, especially during those crisp January days when a little fresh air can lift your spirits.

Top tips for the Challenge

  1. Plan your routes
Mix up your walks to keep it fun and exciting. Research local dog-friendly parks, nature trails, or scenic routes in your area.
  2. Stay safe
January weather can be unpredictable, so dress appropriately, keep your dog warm if needed, and carry water for both of you.
  3. Track your progress
Use apps like Strava or simply your phone to log your kilometres and share updates with your supporters.
  4. Make it social
Invite friends, neighbours, or other dog walkers to join you for part of your journey—it’s a great way to stay motivated.

Make a BIG impact

Every kilometre you walk with your dog is a step closer to building a brighter future for children and their families. The funds you raise during The BIG Dog Walk Challenge will help us be there for families today, and families of the future.

So, grab the leash, head out the door, and take on The BIG Dog Walk Challenge this January. Together, we can walk BIG for a BIG cause!
